Description

World of Padman (WoP) est un jeu de tir subjectif disponible à la fois en anglais et en allemand. Au début, WoP était un mod pour le jeu vidéo Quake III Arena appelé à l'époque PadMod. Après que le code source du moteur de Quake III Arena (l'id Tech 3) fut libéré, le jeu est devenu totalement standalone (jouable sans avoir besoin de Quake III Arena).

L'univers du jeu est basé sur le comic Padman, apparu à plusieurs reprises dans le magazine PlayStation Games et créé par l'artiste professionnel Andreas 'ENTE' Endres, artiste qui a également créé de nombreuses maps du jeu.

• New Monster Browser released
  torhu, a programmer from Norway and member of the Smokin' Guns development team, recently released version 0.8a of his Monster Browser. It's a simple game server browser for Quake 3 based games (and mods) like Smokin' Guns, Urban Terror, Tremulous and fully supports World of Padman now. It uses QStat to query the servers. Currently it only runs on Windows, but might someday support other platforms. (It should run under Linux by using Wine). For all changes please read the Changelog. This little tool is still in development. Check it out!By the way, the second release candidate of Smokin Guns v1.1 (RC2) for Windows and Linux operating systems is available to the public for testing. You should definitely give it a try. • WoP Community Mapping Contest 2012
  The upcoming weekend we start the first World of Padman community mapping contest. There are so many nice and well done community maps out there, but they're spread all over the world wide web and may get lost one sad day. To avoid this we would like to create a single official community map pack, including all the high quality maps created by community mappers. Another goal is to update some of the old maps that currently are not compatible with World of Padman 1.6. Furthermore we want to include new and unreleased maps which still linger on your hard drive, waiting to be played.You can submit your maps until the 21st of July. Afterwards, testing and voting by the community starts. Therefore PadWorld Entertainment provides an extra official server, running only the final community maps. As soon as maps are final, sent in and checked regarding requirements and integrity we will upload them to our server, where players can auto-download them. The contest has no special theme or topic, all maps are welcome which you consider suitable to the World of Padman.All maps will be evaluated in three categories by a judging panel consisting of five members of the World of Padman development team. The judges review every map and give feedback if the requirements are fulfilled and hints or reasons when they are not fulfilled. Furthermore the community can vote for all maps to sway the judging panel evaluation. By August 21st we will finish the community voting and by September 2nd we expect to showcase the best community maps and to release the final community map pack.We will provide coverage for all map entries. Every map will get its own topic in the WoP editing forum to gather community feedback. We also present the maps in a news post at our website as soon as they are final. It would be best not to wait until the deadline is reached, so send in your maps as soon as possible. Please note the contest rules and pay attention to the requirements section.Support the project, update your existing maps to include them into the package.

• All WoP game servers updated
  The 1.6 update of World of Padman was released a couple of weeks ago but it always needs some time until administrators recognize updates and start to patch their game servers. By checking Smiley's mighty server browser at our web page you can find out that all WoP 1.2 and 1.5 game servers are gone now and most of them were updated to version 1.6. Maybe we have to thank websites like CHIP Online and heise online which updated their download portfolio a couple of days ago and listed the new WoP patch. CHIP Online bundled the WoP 1.6 patch with the WoP 1.5 full installer for Windows in one zip-file. Also many thanks to all the other websites and the community for distributing World of Padman news around the world.So if you want to play online and cannot find any WoP game servers up there you should check if you have World of Padman 1.6 installed. After installing the patch you should be able to see more then 10 servers listed in the ingame server browser. If you need help installing the patch check out our video tutorial in English language below (nicely done with some German accent) or if you need some instructions in German language check out 795Manuel7's tutorial (How-To) World of Padman patchen (v1.5 zu v1.6).

• Dieselkopf album Fear of the Future released
  Fear of the Future is a brand new and recently released record by the band Dieselkopf from Sweden. It features 8 tracks which are available as mp3 downloads via Ubetoo. Some tracks are well known from the World of Padman soundtrack like Live your Life and Sentimental Blur. Both tracks were remastered and polished up. Ronny Rasmusson, head of the band, is responsible for the very first World of Padman soundtrack which is still part of the game. More tracks of Dieselkopf in full length can be found on Soundcloud, MySpace and YouTube. Check it out.

• FAQ, Interview and more
  Some people may have noticed that we started a FAQ sub-forum in our forum, which is also linked here in the main menu on the left side of our website. The goal is to gather all the frequently asked questions from the community and to answer them in one place. So if you are new to the World of Padman and you need help with, for example, how to install a patch or how to colour your nick name in game, this should be the first place to look at. We hope to fill up the threads with more questions and answers soon.The Happy Friar, the man in charge of planetquake.com, got some time to interview me about World of Padman. There you can find some information about the history of WoP, the development of the game in the past and what's new in the WoP 1.6 patch release. Also we show off some little information about future plans and community events.Last but not least: congratulations to the ASK clan for winning its second clan war against the Los clan last Sunday. • In the Spotlight #2
  Today in the spotlight we present a very nice video showing off some WoP v1.6 game play made by GameBoom, a community content driven site for gamers who like free games. The video starts with fighting PaddyBell and her sisters BadPaddy and PaddyBee in oregano4's Airplane. • A WoP year in a review
  Chrismas is over and the new year 2012 still lies ahead of us. 2011 was a WoP year with ups and downs and lots of releases. WoP 1.5 was released on December 28th 2010 followed by the 1.5.1 hotfix at January 24th and the 1.5.1.1 hotfix at June 29th. Due to the WoP 2.0 release struggle this was a very big release after three years without any releases. We provided lots of new content like new player models and new maps, the long anticipated game mode Capture the Lolly, all maps polished and over 2000 textures revised. This release was possible after the team stopped working on the single player mode. This was a hard decision for us but from today's point of view a good one.After the release of the 1.5.1 hotfix ENTE stepped back from developing the World of Padman game after more than 10 years of development. This was a major loss because ENTE always kept the team motivated and promoted the team working culture. Also other team members went inactive but four PadMembers vowed to keep on developing the game and to bring you the new version 1.6 of the World of Padman game.Therefore we decided to change the release model because we didn't want to make you waiting for another long time. We provided the beta releases 1.5.2 to 1.5.5 in shorter release cycles and this was also an attempt to involve the entire community helping us to develop the game. Your feedback should help us fixing bugs and polishing the game play which was our new target after the big 1.5 release. But this strategy doomed to fail from the very beginning cause we nearly lost the whole player base due to the WoP 2.0 release struggle and also the 1.5 release was not able to revive the community like expected. Nearly no one visited the beta-server and bug-tickets were rarely seeded.So, what are further development steps in 2012? First we want to bring you a new patch fixing bugs in version 1.6. Therefore we keep beta tests and releases internal again. PadWorld Entertainment is a small team developing the game these days and that's why help from the community to find bugs and game play issues always comes handy. If you are interested in beta testing drop us a line. Due to internal reasons all upcoming releases will be cumulative patches for the last WoP 1.5 full release. We will always release a unified archive file containing binaries for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Furthermore we keep on using Desura as digital distributing service to keep your installation auto-patched. We have also future plans for some community events in 2012. • WoP 1.6 unleashed
  World of Padman 1.6. patch is released and available for download as an unified zip file containing binaries for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. A dmg for Mac OS X and an installer for Windows will be provided soon. The new version solves some major game play issues and adds new features to the game. We also added new content like oregano4's Airplane, a map for SyC, LPS and DM game modes and two new skins for the PaddyBell character model, PaddyBell and PaddyBee. To all the modders and mappers out there, please pay attention to the change log. • WoP is the top 101 indie game of the year 2011!
  Hey guys, it looks like we didn't make it in the top 100 nominees for IndieDB's Indie Game of the Year Awards for 2011. The competition is big these days and today INtense!, the founder of ModDB, told us that we are ranked on place 101 and only one vote was missing to get in the top 100. Imagine that!World of Padman and ModDB/IndieDB have a long history together. • Fly with us in oregano4's Airplane
  Some people out of the community know a guy called oregano4 from the WoP Editing Forum. Back in early 2010 he presented some very first screen shots of his map project called "plane". We were really impressed by the high quality of the work and asked him to include his map into the last official release but it wasn't finished at that time.It's been a while since then but oregano4 used the time to polish the design, to improve game play and to fight out bugs. You need to know that for hobby level designers like us it takes sometimes ages to make such a high quality map and the first idea for this one came up in 2004!But now in preparation of the World of Padman 1.6 release we are able to show you some amazing new screen shots. oregano4's Airplane will be part of the upcoming release! • The sisters of PaddyBell
  Did you know that PaddyBell has sisters? Here are some very first screen shots of PaddyBell and PaddyBee, two new and alternative skins for the PaddyBell character model.Like the name BadPaddy suggests she is kind of a bad twin of PaddyBell. Definitely not a cute fairy, equipped with some sharp teeth to bite you if you don't pay attention.PaddyBee is a bee-like creature, that's why she has some nice insect wings and some black and yellow coloured clothing. Equipped with a nice motorbike helmet she is prepared for some fast game play.Both were created by our talented PencilWhipped and come up with red and blue team skins. They will be available with WoP 1.6 soon.Btw, what's the map in the background?

• Indie of the Year awards 2011 started
  IndieDB.com kicks off the 2nd annual Indie of the Year awards on December 1st. Within the upcoming 10 days of phase 1 you can nominate us as a top 100 indie game. We'll compete against more than 1500 released indie games this year. From December 10th to December 20th voting booths are open for phase 2. • WoP Open Beta Weekend
  We are having a World of Padman open beta weekend from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th of November. To prepare the next official version of World of Padman, which should be released very soon, we want to share with you the last changes coming up with World of Padman 1.5.5 beta. Code work is finished and now it's up to you to test new features and to find bugs. This is the last chance for us to receive your feedback before World of Padman 1.6 will be released, that's why it's a very important event to us.Starting from Friday evening we provide two servers running WoP 1.5.5 beta. One will provide team game modes CTL, BB and SyC. The other one will provide FFA, SyC and LPS game modes. We hope that you can try new features and give us feedback, if things work like expected. Please check if ...voice chat icons over a player's head and in the HUD is shown when he is talking.icons of teammates, loading stations, spray teleporter, LPS arrows and BB boxes are shown correctly and their respective buttons work in the game option menu.the reduced ammo bottle load of Boaster (from 100 to 60) and Balloony (from 15 to 10) feels right with the weapons balance and game play.the reduced Boaster direct hit damage (from 5 to 3) feels right with the weapons balance and game play.the powerups are still handled correct while being in the spray room. Powerups should be removed completely when entering the spray room and given back correctly when leaving the spray room. The time of powerups is not paused!the 3D stereoscopic feature and the 3D crosshair works, when selected in the menu.the reduced PadPower damage feels right with the weapons balance and game play. We reduced the multiplier from 3 to 2.BamBams are prone to visionless now and how this affect the game play.the bots behaviour in CTL game mode and the navigation is flawless.Bambams can't be placed into walls or mapobjects anymore.the HUD indicates areas where no BamBams and Boomies can be placed correctly.This is only a very short list of most important changes, fixes and improvements which were done since the WoP beta versions were in development. • WoP Desura statistics
  Since we smashed the number of a thousand World of Padman installs via Desura short time ago, we thought you might have a look at some statistics and how it is presented to game developers. We don't know if a thousand single installs is a high or low number for an indie game but guess what, we don't care. It's just fun to see the game be distributed all over the planet.As you can see most of the WoP players come from the United States of America followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. The pie charts illustrate that most players are between 15 and 24 years old and it seems that we are lacking of female players. The blue and red graphs in the chart below show the development of installs and uninstalls within the last three months. • Cartoon contest without Padman
  The Cartoon Contest hosted by ANIMAX Germany moved to the next stage. It's a pity but ENTE's Padman didn't make it into the top 10 voting to win a guest part in the TV series The Little Record Shop. Maybe it is for the good of all because as far as we know Padman he would have smashed everything into pieces anyway.

• Goodbye Pappy-R
  Some of you maybe noticed that Pappy-R leaves Planet Quake and steps back from writing news and articles on other sites like Planet Wolfenstein and Planet Doom too. Planet Quake is famous for being one of the first sites on the web posting news about Quake games and related mods since more then a decade. Pappy-R started posting news about the PADMod back in 2002. Although Jube was taking over writing news on Planet Quake for a couple of years Pappy-R didn't forget about us after Jube left the stage. He continued writing news about the World of Padman and so does TheHappyFriar after Pappy-R leaves now. On Tastyspleen.tv you can find a nice interview with Pappy-R about his Doom and Quake times and web pages recorded in 2009.All we can say is: Thanks for your support through the years. • WoP CTL evening on Hectics PCS
  We'd like you to mark Sunday, October 23, 8:00pm GMT in your calendar, since the PadCommunity decided to play Capture the Lolly on Hectics Public Custom Server. The event is organized by Hectic and the goal is to play CTL all evening, but with a few restrictions: teams will be fixed and set up right on that day. This way we don't get any team-hoppers or winning-team-joiners. Besides, we'd only have players who actually know how to play CTL. To join is simple! Just reply in the WoP forum with "I want to be part of it!". However please be certain that you'll be there and consider that the event will last approx. 1.5 hours. • Vote for Padman
  From 21st of September to 21st of December ANIMAX Germany hosts a Cartoon Contest. Artists can send in a picture of their own cartoon character creation. The best character wins a guest part in the TV series The Little Record Shop. ENTE send in Padman. The first goal is to survive the top ten voting, running until 26th of October. • TrashMap CTL - Sneak a peak
  The following screen shots show some first impressions of Kai's TrashMap, adapted for the game mode Capture the Lolly. This map is huge and provides a diverse playground up to two dozen of players, filled up with all kind of weapons and items. Also expect a complete new sound setting of the environment. We added a lot of new high quality sound replacements to World of Padman to enhance your experience. Kai's TrashMap and more new stuff will be shipped with the upcoming 1.5.5 beta patch. Stay tuned.

• WoP 1.5.1.1 hotfix released for Linux
  We are sorry to bug you with another file to download, but this update fixes an essential WoP security issue on Linux systems. Due to an serious vulnerability in ioquake3 that would allow a malicious server operator to execute arbitrary code on Linux clients we supply all Linux users with some new binaries. We recommend an urgent update. The hotfix 1.5.1.1 includes the prior hotfix 1.5.1 (no extra download needed) and can be applied directly on the WoP 1.5 full release. • The new web site
  Welcome to our new World of Padman web site. Due to a server change we took the change to switch our web site to the new layout. The layout was designed by ENTE and Smiley shows himself responsible on the functional properties. We think he can be very proud of the new server browser which shows all WoP servers running online with a remarkable amount of information just in time. On the left side of the web page you can find the main menu and the shout box for chat sessions. On the right side you can find boxes with the necessary WoP files to download for your preferred operating system, our official WoP servers running online and a couple of social community and third party links. We know, that the new web page is still under construction and some essential stuff like a help section is still missing, but we hope to deliver the missing pages soon.Apart from worldofpadman.com being our official web address, worldofpadman.net, worldofpadman.org and padworld.myexp.de does the trick too.   World of Padman 1.5.4 beta is released for open beta-testing. WoP 1.5.4 beta? And what's the matter with 1.5.3 beta, some of you might think. You need to know that we released 1.5.3 beta a couple of days ago but due to a major bug in bots path finding it wasn't as stable as we thought. That's why we kept silent about it and decided to release the new version a few days later to fix this bug and a few more.The new version solves some major game play issue like bots standing idle in CTL game mode and placing a BamBam into solid brushes. We added a new quick info (or tool-tip) feature for some of the menu items which appear on mouse over. The HUD now shows the the person voice chatting. To all the modders and mappers out there, please pay attention to the changelog. We made a few changes and additions to the game.To install the patch it requires at least a full WoP 1.5 installation. There is no requirement of the 1.5.1 hot fix or any other prior beta installation. If you already have one installed, it's fine.
